What is the relationship between an engineering drawing and a Bill of Materials?

A bill of material is developed from an engineering drawing (MTO people don’t engineer or design, they simply count the pieces) and allows the installers to obtain fro the warehouse those materials required to construct their part of that particular area covered by the drawing.
